Here are some answers to the most common questions we in the Water Garden
Department get asked:
The #1 question we always get asked over everything and anything else is, ALGAE. "Why is my pond turning green?", or "I`ve got so much string algae, and no matter how much I remove it, it just keeps growing back at a rapid rate. What can I do?"
There are THREE solutions to fight algae:
#1: Get a quality strong enough pump, with the correct capacaity for your pond. Install an external filtration system. The filters come with a UV light installed in them which really helps stop algae growth dead in its tracks.
#2: Buy pond plants such as floating Hyacinths. These beautiful flowering plants act like algae sponges. Be careful with how many of these plants you buy as they do spread at a very fast rate.
#3: You can purchase a product in our store called POND PEAT. Pond Peat produces a natural amber tint, reduces sunlight which would otherwise encourage algae growth, and contains a naturally occuring fungicide that is benefical to fish and plants. Thus, it is excellent to use if you have fish. It keeps the water healthy and contains acids that help lower the pH levels.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask our Water Garden Department staff.
